The Telegram messaging app has launched a one-on-one video calls feature on the app on Android and iOS devices. In an upload on its official blog, Telegram stated that the need for face-to-face communication has become a trend this year.
In an upload about the launch of the one-on-one video calls feature as well as marking the seventh anniversary, Telegram describes the process for starting a video call.
The trick is to tap on the profile page of the person you want to contact. Users can activate or deactivate video at any time during a call, and the video call feature supports picture-in-picture mode, so that users can continue to scroll the application if the video call feels boring.
Video calls on Telegram are claimed to have encryption from upstream to downstream to increase privacy security.
In April, Telegram announced it would launch a video call feature for the group later this year. Telegram also said that that month, the app had reached 400 million monthly active users.
Still from the same source, Telegram revealed further information about the video call feature. "Video calls will receive more features and improvements in future versions, as we seek to launch group video calls in the coming months," wrote Telegram.
